About the venue

The main venue for IMO 2023, Makuhari Messe, is in a newly developing area in Chiba City, a large commercial city 40 minutes from Tokyo by car. Makuhari Messe is one of Japan's most prominent complexes for events. It is located around Kaihin-Makuhari Station and has many event halls, hotels, shopping malls, and sports facilities that attract people.

  • Letters to assist IMO 2023 participants in obtaining a visa are available to Contestants, Leaders, Deputies, and official Observers at the organizers' discretion.
  • You can apply for a Japanese Visa up to 3 months before your travel to Japan. Therefore, you can start Visa applications for IMO 2023 after the first week of April 2023. The Countries that need an official invitation in paper form visa (old style) mail, should inform info[at]imo2023.jp (change [at] to @) before Saturday, April 1, 2023.

Important Note for the Participating Countries

Important Days

The countries to participate the IMO2023 should be sure to check the following days of the deadlines mentioned in the annual regulation.

  • Tuesday, February 28, 2023: Last day for online confirmation of participation by countries and territories.
  • Saturday, April 1, 2023: Last day to request a paper official invitation to be posted to your country or territory.
  • Sunday, April 2, 2023: Last day for receipt of problem proposals. Proposals can only be submitted through the IMO official portal.
  • Friday, April 21, 2023: Last day for online registration of leaders, deputy leaders, observers, the number of contestants and arrival day for leaders and observers.
  • Friday, May 19, 2023: Last day for full payment of charges for single rooms and observers in cleared funds. Please use the reference IMO2023 and your country or territory’s name.
  • Wednesday, May 31, 2023: Last day for online registration of contestants.
  • Thursday, June 15, 2023: Last day for online registration of all travel details (please fill this in earlier if you can).
